How could this sportscaster possibly think this was a good idea??
Emily Austen is — or, was — a sideline reporter for
The broadcaster who covered the Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic will NOT be appearing on Fox Sports any more after a racist, anti-Semitic, and generally bigoted video came to light on Thursday evening.
Austen joined a Facebook video shoot with a group of guys from a website called Barstool Sports, and in doing so proceeded to say some incredibly awful things as the entire cast wrapped up yesterday’s sports events on camera.
On the 35-minute long broadcast — which was deleted very quickly from Facebook Live, but pulled off in time and posted to Vimeo for the world to see — Austen utters SO many insensitive jokes.
She goes off about Cleveland Cavaliers‘ star Kevin Love (calling him a ‘little bitch’ multiple times), as well as levying criticism of the Mexican-American student who revealed her undocumented status at graduation (saying she ‘didn’t even know that Mexicans were that smart’).
Austen also stereotyped Asian people (‘the Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class’) and made off-color references about Jewish people living in south Florida.
Well, now the hammer has come down.
In a statement released to the media this morning, Fox Sports Florida’s senior vice president Steve Tello laid it all out in no uncertain terms (below):
“We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.”
No more television for YOU, girl!!
